TRR Concert Series 2014
The 4th of the 4-part Truth Revolution Records Concert Series
The 2014 Truth Revolution Records Concert Series comes to a close this Saturday June 7th with legendary bassist Andy Gonzalez.
Andy is one of the most in demand bassists in Jazz & Latin Music today. Born in NYC in 1951 to parents from the Lares section of
Puerto Rico, Gonzalez was raised in the Bronx with his older brother (trumpeter & conguero Jerry). At age 13, he & his brother formed a band that was patterned after Cal Tjader's group. Soon after, he was playing Jazz with trumpeters Kenny Dorham & Dizzy Gillespie and Salsa with Ray Barretto & Eddie Palmieri. It was in Palmieri's band at that time where he met & befriended Manny Oquendo. The two men would begin a musical partnership in 1974, starting with Grupo Folklorico Y Experimental Nuevayorquino and then Conjunto Libre, which continued until Manny's passing in 2009. In 1980, Andy joined forces with his brother again to form the Fort Apache Band. Andy has appeared as a sideman on over 800 recordings and has now turned to private instruction of bass students.
For this event, appearing with Andy will be Ben Lapidus on guitar & tres, Manuel Alejandro Carro on conga & vocals and special guest from the Cleveland, Ohio area will be Orlando "El Mostro" Santiago, cuatro virtuoso. These three musicians are also a part of the group which has been brought together for the upcoming debut release from Andy Gonzalez as a leader on TRR Records.
Please join us as we welcome Andy Gonzalez back to Hartford this Saturday June 7th at the Polish National Home, 60 Charter Oak Ave, Hartford, CT. Showtime is at 8PM
